Mama Liked the Roses
Presley released “Mama Liked the Roses” in 1970, as the B-side of the single “The Wonder of You.” The song rose to #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It was composed by Johnny Christopher, who was part of a team that wrote other hits for Elvis, “If You Talk in Your Sleep” and “Always on My Mind.”
This song was recorded over the course of a few months. Most of the music was recorded on January 15-16, 1969. Elvis’s lead vocals and the background vocals were added the following week. In March, additional music and vocals were recorded to create the final song.
