The album Elvis Presley was released by RCA Victor in March 1956. It contained songs recorded at the RCA studios in Nashville and New York, as well as material previously recorded at Sun Studio.
The album spent ten weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart, the first rock and roll album to claim that spot. It was also the first album of its kind to sell over one million copies. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it as the 55th greatest album of all time.
